The Baroque Sinfonietta

The Baroque Sinfonietta, founded in 1985 by Jenny Rudin, fills a unique niche in the chamber music landscape. The small string ensemble performs in European camerata style, without a conductor. The group, conceptualized as an augmented string quartet, was originally conceived for the purpose of exploring the string ensemble literature. The violins and violas are all current or former students of Mrs. Rudin. The 'celli are students of Dahna Rudin, a music faculty member at the College of Notre Dame. The trademark style and young age of its members has won the Baroque Sinfonietta considerable critical acclaim.

One of the first appearances of the Baroque Sinfonietta was at the 1987 Junior Bach Festival, a competition and performance series held annually in the San Francisco Bay area. In 1990, the ensemble performed its first benefit for the College of Notre Dame in Belmont, CA, where Mrs. Rudin teaches and holds a faculty position. The benefit concerts have continued yearly ever since. A limited-edition CD of the Spring '98 concert is available for purchase.
